What might have once been considered minor news, or no news at all, is now making the rounds on social media sites and sparking further conversation regarding gun control laws and the NRA.
The NRA will be hosting a convention this coming Friday (5/4/18) in Dallas, Texas, where Vice President Pence and President Trump are scheduled to appear and speak. Because of the attendance of Pence and Trump, the Secret Service has called for a complete weapon ban at the event; including firearms.
This is my appeal to Republican voters. There are many issues that have become partisan over the years that simply put, should not be.
Below I have highlighted only two issues: Climate Change and Gun Control.
Both are very divisive.
My argument below is to highlight how, despite evidence to support making policy changes to minimize climate change while increasing gun control, Republicans have made it a part of the GOP ideology to oppose or deny both topics.
This is not an attack against Republicans, or conservatives. It is a request that citizens not allow their party of choice to define their individual ideologies.
President Trump has been in office for over 100 days. Since he has passed that milestone (which many decry as a horrible way to measure the progress of a new administration), the barrage of criticism has only grown.
Much of the negative press is based off of the blunders, leaks, and shady dealings that have become an almost constant dark cloud hovering over the Trump administration.
This article is not going to discuss the bias prevalent in many news channels, whether for or against President Trump. Neither will I discuss the divisive nature of the campaign, election win, and time in power thus far.
It hasn’t even been a full week under President Trump and the US has been downgraded from a full to a “flawed democracy”.
I wasn’t happy with the election results, but I decided to give Trump a chance and see whether he and a GOP led Congress can make some positive change.
It is very sad to say that the hope I held is already almost fully diminished.
Green Party candidate Jill Stein has requested that Wisconsin recount votes from this past presidential election. The request has been approved by the Wisconsin election board.
The Clinton campaign has stated that they will join in on the recount in Wisconsin, as well as any other states recounts will take place in.
Despite the elections being over, the country still appears to be embroiled in political disputes concerning President-Elect Trump and how the system to elect the President of the United States needs revamping.
In an earlier article, we analyzed the Electoral College System. This time, we will be taking a look at the two party system of Democrats vs Republicans and how it may have done more harm than good to national politics.
