Moscow Must Pressure Tehran, Like Damascus

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani seeks better relations and talks with the United States. This is a positive development and ought to be pursued, but talks can also be used as a delay tactic and result in nothing.

That’s why Moscow must intervene to pressure Tehran in the same way it intervened to force Assad to destroy his chemical weapons.

Tehran must agree to purchase enriched uranium from Russia, not produce it on their own, and then allow UN inspectors make sure the uranium is only being used peacefully.

Beyond discussing nuclear energy, America and Iran have the opportunity to talk about numerous issues: American pastor being held; Syria; Afghanistan; high petroleum prices; and Iran’s development.
